A beautiful aesthetic and sophisticated editing underpins this film’s storyline based on The Dark Room by Rachel Seifert. Set in Germany at the end of WWII, teenager Lore and her siblings are abandoned days after the war officially ends but while life is still dangerous and confusing. After her Nazi Military father and sympathiser mother are taken away to account for their actions, and presumably to be killed, Lore is tasked to take her younger siblings across Germany from the south to Hamburg.
Lore gradually discovers the lies that have organised her life and the hardships she faces on the journey bring her to a brutal awakening.
